Olympic Bronze medalist Joshua Buatsi set to make his return on Sky Sports against Frenchman Daniel Dos Santos

Another cracking fight happening this Saturday on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN across the globe!!! The 2016 bronze medalist Joshua Buatsi will return on the Matchroom fight card after a 7-month break to once again defend his WBA international Light-Heavyweight title against unbeaten Frenchman Daniel Blenda Dos Santos at the AO Arena in Manchester this Saturday. The fight that was meant to stage this week’s event was the super-featherweight unification between Terri Harper and Hyun-mi Choi but is now postponed due to Harper’s agonising hand injury which forced her to pull out of the fight . This will be Buatsi’s first fight under legendary trainer Virgil Hunter, who has trained the likes of Andre Ward, Amir Khan and Demetrius Andrade, who all became champions under his training regimen.

Last October, Buatsi was facing his toughest test to date in Marco Calic who was a  6’3 undefeated Croatian who can punch, and has helped many cruiserweights and heavyweights with sparring session. Luckily Buatsi came through and stopped him in 7 round by TKO paving his way through the light-heavyweight rankings and getting closer to a championship belt.

The current light-heavyweight landscape seems to be a little cluttered up with IBF & WBC champion Artur Beterbiev challenging WBO champion Joe Smith Jr. in a unification bout, and Dymitri Bivol who after defending his WBA belt against Craig Richards, seems to be undecided on whether to wait for the winner of the unified championship or move down to super-middleweight and challenge pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez for a massive payday.

Buatsi is currently ranked 2nd in the WBA rankings and the 28-year old would be ready to step up to the challenge and mix it up with the proven contenders in his division. Being signed under Anthony Joshua’s 258 management banner and also under Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, it shouldn’t be much of a problem to set up a title fight for the Olympian.

Conversely, Joshua Buatsi is still a novice in the professional ranks with just 13 fights and can still acquire a vast amount of experience before fighting for a world title. The most important thing for him to focus on is Dos Santos who is currently undefeated and would certainly have a go to knock the former Olympian out.

Matchroom undercard fights with up & coming prospects

Also on the card will be Cruiserweight Tommy McCarthy and Super-Bantamweight Gamal Yafai who will be having their first European title defense against tough opposition, and also big prospect Lerrone Richards will contest for the vacant European super-middleweight title. If they manage to obtain a win this saturday, all of them will steadily move up to the world stage and compete against the best in their own congenial divisions.

Further down you also have Dalton Smith challenging Lee Appleyard for the vacant British super-lightweight title, and amateur prospects Ellis Hopkins & Solomon Dacres will be making their professional debut on Matchroom, Sky Sports, and DAZN.

Despite that the unification between Harper and Choi has been cancelled, this card brings a lot to the table with many famous prospects fighting for titles against contenders that, with the right plan and mindset, could cause a few aberrations on the night!!
