Former Shelbourne Ladies and current Irish captain Katie McCabe have scored a screamer for Arsenal today in the 4-0 WSL win over Aston Villa in Walsall. Arsenal lies twelve points behind Chelsea with a game in hand.

McCabe shined for Arsenal in the 4-0 win with a goal and an assist. Goals from Miedema Nobbs, McCabe and Evans helped Arsenal pull away from the likes of Everton and the chasing pack.

What Arsenal win means

The victory moves Joe Montemurro’s Arsenal to within six points of Manchester United. They occupy the third and final Champions League spot. Villa remains 10th, four points above bottom side Bristol City.

The Gunners are looking to chase a Champions League spot to salvage something from a disappointing season.

Dutch superstar Miedema broke the deadlock in the 58th minute. Nobbs returning after a knee injury added a second, with a simlar finish.

McCabe made it three with a long-range screamer from 25 yards. She found the top left corner with an unstoppable strike.

McCabe’s also had a hand in the last goal when Arsenal, who were in cruise control, zipped the ball around the Villa defence.

Arsenal made it four as substitute Lisa Evans climbed high inside the area to head home McCabe’s delivery.

McCabe seems to have put the stories about her journey to the United Arab Emirates behind her.

The news came after the introduction of a travel ban for Tier 4 residents in London was applied.

McCabe’s clubmates tested positive for Covid-19 upon her return, forcing the postponement of a league match against Aston Villa.

Arsenal boss Joe Montemurro saying she was disappointed with those involved. Montemurro revealed that McCabe issued an apology to the squad.

McCabe will link up with Ireland soon for the European qualifier.
