Chisora v Parker backstory

This has been a much-anticipated fight for a few years now. Initially a fight on the undercard of Regis Prograis and Josh Taylor in London 2019. Parker couldn’t fight due to a spider bite which affected his training camp and was replaced by David Price.

After Chisora’s TKO win vs Price in the 4th round, and with COVID-19 putting Boxing at a standstill, both Parker and Chisora decided to go a different route.

Chisora decided to challenge former undisputed Cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in a final eliminator to become mandatory for the unified world champion Anthony Joshua.

Unfortunately, he didn’t get the decision. Many quibbled about the unanimous decision as many boxing pundits scored this a draw. It didn’t affect Chisora’s reputation as he already accumulated 9 losses in his career. Chisora’s reputation in the heavyweight division remained

Joseph Parker on the other hand fought a 10-round bout in February 2020 vs Shawndell Winters on the Mikey Garcia vs Jessie Vargas undercard. He gave an average performance and won by TKO in the 5th round. Then once the pandemic hit, Parker returned to his family in New Zealand. He continued his training camp there to challenge the undefeated Samoan rival Junior Fa.

What went down for Parker and Chisora

He managed to scrape a close unanimous decision against Fa but looked flat and lethargic for all 12 rounds hardly throwing any punches. This performance made many experts question his hunger and drive for the sport, and he announced shortly after that we would be linking with world class trainer and former WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee.

Now after almost a 2-year delay, they will be facing each other in Manchester on PPV and could be a real brawl. When it comes to the prediction of the fight. Parker is undoubtedly the favourite as he is the fresher of the two. He is the younger one and being former world champion has lost only to two elite level fighters. Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua bested parker. Nonetheless, Dereck Chisora is a handful to deal with having been in multiple wars in recent years with Dillian Whyte, Carlos Takam, David Price, and Artur Szpilka.
