Chelsea and Real Madrid ends 1-1

Chelsea have drawn 1-1 in Spain to Spanish side Real Madrid. Christian Pulisic’s first half goal gave Chelsea an early lead, but Karim Benzema replied soon after.

Chelsea have improved massively under new manger Thomas Tuchel. The have become more resolute under the German. They have beaten the likes of Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and Porto on the way to the semi-final

The 13th times winners Real Madrid were looking to make it 14 European wins this may and not many would back against them doing it again.This would be Zinedine Zidane’s 4th win as Real manager if they pull this off.

First half Chelsea and Real Madrid ends 1-1

Chelsea started off the brightest in Spain and knocked the ball around comfortably in the opening stages with some lovely touches. Timo Werner taught he gave Chelsea the lead when Christian Pulisic found the German. The striker could only direct his header straight at Thibaut  Courtois 

Chelsea would soon go ahead when a ball over the top found Pullisc. The American captain made no mistake when Courtois came out to meet him. He went around the Belgian to score his 4th goal in 6th starts.

Madrid taught they had leveled preceding’s when Karim Benzema hit a beautiful shot just past Edouard Mendy’s post. It remained 1-0 much to the relief of Mendy.

Benzema would make no mistake minutes later when a ball into the box was headed into his path from a Marcelo cross. The ball remained alive. He chested the ball down and smashed the ball past Mendy to make it 1-1 on the night. A goal against the run of play. This was his 71st Champions league goal and 28th of the season

Second half

The second half started off in similar fashion with Chelsea controlling all the ball. The difference this half was that Madrid figured out the game plan.

Madrid started to dominate the game and brang on a familiar face in Eden Hazard for Vinícius Júnior. Chelsea made a triple substitution with Reece James, Hakim Ziyech, and Kai Havertz. making way for Cesar Azpilicueta, Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner.

Madrid sent a freekick into the Chelsea box. a few ricochets around the penalty area Benzema and Marcelo had efforts but both shots remained out due to blue shirts.

Toni Kroos had a decent effort, but couldn’t direct it on target. The resulting corner was another chance to make it 2-1 but nobody could connect to the ball.

Neither side could add to the score and the game ended all sqaure going into the second leg.

Madrid will head to London with a priceless away goal next week, while Chelsea will be disappointed having not scored some of those early chances

The winner of this tie will play either Paris Saint Germain or Manchester City, who play in the other semi tomorrow
