Antoine Dupont downs Munster in Thomand Park in European Champions Cup

Munster bowed out of the European Champions Cup at the hands of French side Toulouse 33-40. Two tries from Keith Earls and Gavin Coombes wasn’t enough to stop the French side from winning at Thomand Park for the first time

Toulouse took an early lead with a couple of  Romain Ntamack penalty, but it was Munster and Keith Earls who would score the first try and the second, along with Joey Carberry penalties, to give Munster a 16-9 lead going into half time.

Toulouse came out in the second half with added intent and would reduce the deficit when the French side got through with a lovely chip from Ntamack to allow winger Matthis Lebel to touch down for Toulouse’s opening try in the corner.

Munster led by seven points on three separate occasions but was unable to keep the French side away. Gavin Coombes scored Munster’s third try after good work by Conor Murray to win a penalty. The scrum-half showed excellent feet to win a penalty. He took the tap, which allowed the big flanker to score.

Ntamack would again use the chip to win a penalty after Keith Earls played Cheslin Kolbe in the air. Toulouse kicked for the lineout and drove off the base off the lineout, with Julien Marchand getting over from close range to make it 23-23 after a converted Ntamack conversion.

Toulouse took the lead when Lebel galloped down the wing before playing a perfectly timed pass to Dupont to run over uncontested to give the French side the lead for the first time in the game.

The French star would again go over to a minute from time. The try was subject to a TMO call but stood despise calls for a knock-on.

Coombes would score a consolation and his second of the game, but it wasn’t enough to stop Toulouse from winning 33-40.

Toulouse will play away to Clermont Auvergne next week’s quarter-finals, while Munster will be looking to finish the season a week after losing the Guinness PRO14 final loss Leinster last week.
